COVID 19 Virus Update for Las Fuentes Residents

COVID 19 update at {{location_name}} in {{location_city}}, {{location_state_name}}

July 2, 2020

Dear Residents, Family and Friends:

Many of you are aware of the surge in COVID cases within the state of Arizona.  We wanted to provide you an update on our Community’s current status in relation to the virus and the actions we continue to take to prevent the spread of the virus to our vulnerable population.

Firstly, we want to let you know that Las Fuentes currently has no known residents or employees who have tested positive for COVID-19.

We continue to engage in the following infection control measures:

  • Visitation to the facility is restricted to essential external health care providers or end-of-life compassionate family visits. We will continue to assist residents to connect with their loved ones virtually, or arrange for window visits if the county health department guidelines permit.
  • All staff and essential visitors enter through one door and are assessed for signs and symptoms and potential exposure to others diagnosed as positive with COVID-19, and temperatures are taken. If signs and symptoms are observed, recent exposure to a positive individual is disclosed or the temperature falls outside of CDC indicated limits, the individual will be refused entry into the building until further assessment and review can be conducted.
  • All meals continue to be delivered to resident rooms as communal dining has been suspended.
  • Group activities remain suspended and no external community trips are occurring.
  • Staff wear masks at all times while working in the Community and residents are encouraged to wear masks when outside of their rooms and provided masks if need.
  • Frequent hand washing/sanitizing is practiced by staff and encouraged of residents.
  • Housekeeping is engaging in more frequent cleaning of all common and high touch surface areas throughout the community.
  • All packages are disinfected before delivery to residents.
  • Any residents leaving the Las Fuentes for treatment at an external healthcare provider or for any other reason will be required to be quarantined upon his/her return.
  • Residents are being observed for signs and symptoms of COVID and Assisted Living Residents are having their temperatures checked daily.
  • Any resident that is observed with signs or symptoms of the virus will be isolated until testing can be arranged, unless a higher level of care is needed. If we can reasonable arrange it, testing will be provided within the facility to limit a resident’s exposure to the virus at an off-site healthcare provider.

Some of you may be aware of a news report published yesterday that concerned the skilled nursing facility, Granite Creek Health and Rehabilitation, that shares our campus.  This facility is a separate operation from Las Fuentes.  Our building does not physically connect to this building, and we do not share staff or services with this operation.  We are unaware of and cannot speak to any specifics regarding the circumstances outlined in the news report.

We appreciate your cooperation and support during these unprecedented times. Social distancing and other virus-related restrictions have been difficult for all of us during this pandemic. As other states begin to “reopen,” our family members and residents understandably want to know when community restrictions (e.g., visitation, communal activities, leaving the community) may be lifted.  Senior living facilities are some of the most COVID-vulnerable places that exist, and will likely be among the last to “reopen”.  With recent surge in Arizona, it is unlikely that our Community will be ceasing any of the above outlined restrictions in the near future.

We continue to take all recommended actions to minimize the spread of this virus.  We monitor local health department, CDC and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) communications regarding any changes to our current infection control measures, and any changes we can safely make regarding the current restrictions.

As is usual, we will notify residents’ primary physicians and designated family members of any changes in their loved one’s condition, whether potentially related to COVID-19 or not.

We will continue to keep you updated as any changes at the facility occur.  Please reach out with questions, concerns, or requests for assistance.

Thank you for your support and patience with us as we face this unprecedented challenge.
